For many, the holiday season is a time to travel — and to leave the house unattended for days, maybe weeks, at a time. How safe do you think your house is from burglary during your absence?

 

Albany Police Officer Janet Zalatan, a member of the department's Community Service Unit, says the number of burglary reports increases after the holiday season.

 

The key is to assess the security of your home before you leave for vacation. (Another time to do this is shortly after moving into a new home.)

You didn't get your flu shot yet, did you?

 

Maybe you are too busy with work or scared of needles or you just don't see the necessity of vaccinations.

"A flu vaccination is the best way for people to protect themselves against the influenza virus, which may cause severe illness or even death," said Debra Blog, director of the Division of Epidemiology with the state Department of Health. "Vaccinations not only help to protect individuals from the flu, but also the people they come in contact with during the flu season."

Even the tamer looks on the runway at New York Fashion Week can be hard to achieve at home, including mix-and-match style.

 

It seems like Tracy Reese can pair checks and florals, and suddenly it's fashionable. But when you try it out one morning before work it looks like a child dressed you.

 

In styles previewed at Fashion Week, which ended Thursday, it was "juxtaposition" this and "opposite" that.

For Reese, it was OK that a raffia lace dance skirt covered with circle patterns was worn with a floral cropped skirt...
