In 2012, the National School Lunch Program changed to try to make children healthier. Trouble is, schools have learned a year into the program, this only works if the children eat what you're serving.

The regulations about what can be served became stricter and more specific — like serving a full half cup of dark green, red/orange vegetables and dried beans/peas at least once a week and putting them in a separate cup.

At least three local school districts — Voorheesville, Niskayuna and Burnt Hills–Ballston Lake — and Bethlehem High School have opted out of the federal program, giving back reimbursements in order to have more flexibility in...

Disney on Ice celebrates long, magical legacy

"100 Years of Magic" ice show coming to Times Union Center

"Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic" is tailor-made for the short-attention-span generation, more attuned to singles than albums and online videos than feature-length films.

 

The show, which begins next Wednesday and runs through Dec. 22 at Times Union Center, features more than 60 Disney characters, ranging from the classics of yesteryear (such as Pinocchio and Snow White) to more recent films such as "Finding Nemo," "The Incredibles" and "Toy Story," in scenes that run about 6 or 7 minutes.
